Doll Body Sizes

updated June 10, 2013

If you are unsure whether my clothing items will fit your dolls, let me show you the differences I have noticed through the past few years.

Barbie™ dolls were introduced at the 1958 Toy Fair and were available on store shelves in 1959. From that time until 1999, her body remained relatively unchanged. This is what I refer to as the Vintage Body. As time went on, it was decided that her unrealistic figure should be tamed down a bit, and the Belly button body appeared on the store shelves in 2000. This body is the most popular body size on store shelves today.

Both the Vintage Body and Belly Button body dolls can wear my fashions. Just pull the velcro a little tighter on the Belly Button version, she is a little bit smaller in the chest, and a bit larger in the hips.

The Fashion Muse body is easily identified by the angle of her hip. She is thinner than the Vintage body and Belly Button Body dolls, but can still wear most of my fashions. If you want to purchase fitted outfits for this doll or the Silkstone  Body, check with me to see if the items you like will fit.
You will see the Fashion Muse Body and the Vintage Body both being used for the collectible editions of Barbie™ dolls called "Barbie Pink Label" series. Examples are "The Wizard of Oz", "Twilight", "Dolls of the World", and "Pop Culture Collection" just to name a few.

The Silkstone Barbie™ is still presently on the market. This is a hard vinyl doll with a heavy porcelain feel, and is bought mostly by collectors. She is also thinner than the
Vintage body and Belly Button body
 dolls.

This is a list of dolls you will currently see on store shelves that can wear my fashions. Keep in mind that this list may not be complete, and keeps changing as new dolls are introduced and current dolls are discontinued. Just email me if you are in question about a certain doll.

Barbie's Sisters

Barbie's sisters are back in popularity. Although their bodies and height have changed, some of my fashions will fit the older dolls also. These are the dolls presently sold in stores, with the exception of Kelly™. She can be found on line and is still extremely popular, even though the Chelsea™ sized doll seems to have replaced her on store shelves. Chelsea™ and Kelly™ each have several friends who are the same size.

The next photo will show the comparison between the older and newer sister dolls.

I hope this information is helpful. If you have any further questions about the doll sizes or about a specific fashion doll, please don't hesitate to email Jan@JansDollBoutique.com
